A hydraulic gear pump is a type of positive displacement pump commonly used in hydraulic systems to generate fluid flow and pressure. It consists of two meshing gears (an external and an internal gear), typically housed in a casing. As the gears rotate, they create a vacuum at the pump inlet, drawing in hydraulic fluid from the reservoir. The meshing action of the gears traps the fluid and pushes it around the outer edge of the gears, creating high pressure and directing it through the outlet.

There are two main types of hydraulic gear pumps:

    1.    External Gear Pump: Uses two identical gears that mesh together, with one gear driven by a motor, which in turn drives the second gear. This is the most common type of gear pump and is known for its simplicity and reliability.
    2.    Internal Gear Pump: Has a smaller internal gear within a larger external gear. This type can handle thicker fluids and offers quieter operation, making it suitable for applications where noise is a concern.

Hydraulic gear pumps are widely used in industries such as construction, agriculture, and manufacturing for tasks like lifting, pushing, and moving heavy loads, as well as in power steering systems, industrial presses, and other machinery where consistent, high-pressure flow is essential.
